NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Christopher Newport men's tennis team fell, 7-2, in a Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon against the University of Mary Washington (6-2, 3-0). The Captains fell to 5-4 overall and 2-2 in C2C action.
The doubles play was highly contested with No. 1 and No. 2 going to a tiebreaker but the Eagles secured a 3-0 sweep entering singles action. Four of the head-to-head battles were stretched to three sets, including a win for
James Baron at No. 2 singles.
The setback featured a pair of singles wins for CNU with Baron joined by
Ryan Macy int he win column. Macy defeated Nick Spera (6-2, 6-2) at No. 5. Baron earned his win over Andrew Watson on the second line by a final score of 6-3, 1-6, 6-4.

Scotty Hunter faced Moses Hutchison on the top line in another hotly contested battle. Hunter succumbed to Hutchison in a 7-6 (4), 1-6, 6-3 final. Two more of the Captains losses in singles came in three sets as
Tyler Hyun suffered a 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 setback to Cole Tecce at No. 4 and
Eddy Porsmyr Hansen fell to Peter Leese in a 5-7, 6-1, 6-1 final.
Christopher Newport will wrap up the regular season on Friday, April 23 against Virginia Wesleyan. Following the final bout, the Captains will focus on the C2C Tournament set to begin on May 6.
