SALISBURY, Md. -- The Christopher Newport men's tennis team earned a doubles sweep and picked up a pair of wins in singles action to capture a 5-4 win at Salisbury University on Saturday afternoon.
Alec Strause went 2-0 in the match including the match-clinching win at No. 3 singles. The Captains' underclassman defeated Patrick MacLean by a final score of 7-6, 6-4 to wrap up the hotly contested bout.
In doubles action, Strause paired with
Ryan Macy for an 8-3 win at No. 1 in the most lopsided match in tandem play. At No. 2 doubles,
James Baron and
Paul Baron held off a Salisbury pairing for an 8-6 win; at No. 3 doubles, it took extra points for
Matthew Dubuque and
Scotty Hunter to earn the win, 8-7 (6).
With the victory, Christopher Newport improves to 5-3 overall and 2-1 against conference competition.
Rounding out the CNU victories in the match against the Sea Gulls was
Tyler Hyun, who picked up his third win of the year. Playing at No. 5 singles, Hyun defeated Brad Pappalardo for the win.
Next up, CNU will close out the regular season with a home match against Mary Washington at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 17.
