Jason Aigner led the way for the Captains with 29 points, with 18 coming on six three-pointers in the exhibition game.
Christopher Newport never trailed in the matchup, and stretched a 14-point halftime lead, 43-29, to 24 in the second half, 62-38. The Sea Gulls chipped away at the advantage and trailed by a 15-point margin, 74-59, when they mounted an 8-0 run to cut the lead seven...but could get no closer than the final margin of six down the stretch.
Aigner made seven of 11 shots, including six of ten from long range. He also was a perfect nine-for-nine at the foul stripe. The Captains made ten three-pointers in the victory, knocking down ten of 25 from beyond the arc. Aigner was joined in double figures by freshman
Jahn Hines, who scored 14 and also contributed seven rebounds and five assists. Sophomore
Ian Anderson posted 13 points, and pulled down a team-high nine rebounds while also recording three assists, two blocks and two steals. Sophomore
Devon Parrish (10 points-six rebounds-four assists), and freshman
Jamaal Madison (10 points-3 rebounds-2 steals) also reached double figures for the Captains.
The Captains converted 27 of 38 foul shots (.711), and out-rebounded the Sea Gulls, 41-36. Salisbury was led by a double-double from Jordan Oates, who scored 11 points and registered 13 rebounds.
The Captains return to exhibition action next Wednesday, February 24, hosting Marymount in a 7:00 p.m. start.
