NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Christopher Newport opened a 17-point lead heading into halftime on Saturday, and then maintained the advantage through the second half en route to an 88-71 victory over Southern Virginia in exhibition play. The victory at the Freeman Center completed a home-and-home sweep following an 82-67 triumph Friday in Buena Vista, Va.

Landon Hawes led the way with 19 points, followed by sophomore
Devon Parrish who also reached double digits with 11. Freshman
Jahn Hines led the squad in rebounds with 11. The Captains held SVU to 39 percent shooting for the game (26 of 67), while Christopher Newport made 32 of 66 shots (.485).
Southern Virginia held a four-point lead in the first half, before the Captains surged in front and eventually built a 22-point advantage. The Knights were led by Conner Marchant's 13 points.

John Krikorian used all 14 players eligible, with 13 getting into the scoring column. No one played more than 23 minutes for the Captains, who return to action on Wednesday with another exhibition contest at the Freeman Center against Salisbury at 5:00 p.m.
