Christopher Newport Announces 2022 Women's Lacrosse Schedule Featuring Nine Home Games and Six Bouts with Reigning NCAA Tournament Participants

2022 Schedule

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. --
The Christopher Newport women's lacrosse team will face an exciting schedule in 2022 as the Captains will square off with six programs coming off a trip to the NCAA Tournament, including the reigning national champions, while also hosting nine games at Jennings Family Stadium.

After finishing 2021 ranked 22nd in the final IWLCA National Coaches Poll, the Captains will test themselves against a slew of other top-flight opponents during the upcoming campaign. Six of the squad's foes finished last year ranked in the top-25, including three in the top-10. Overall, the programs on Christopher Newport's 2022 slate combined for a stellar .650 winning percentage last year with 11 teams finishing above .500.

The Captains will open the season on February 19 with a quick trip to Virginia Wesleyan. Following the road tilt, the squad will return to Newport News for a lengthy four-game homestand. During that stretch, Moravian (February 26), Kean (March 5), Haverford (March 9), and Lebanon Valley (March 12) will all make an appearance at Jennings Family Stadium.

Returning to the road, Christopher Newport will take on Shenandoah on March 16 before facing its first test against a reigning NCAA Tournament participant three days later. On March 19, the team will take a jaunt to Lexington, Virginia for a battle against Washington & Lee, who finished 2021 ranked ninth in the country after advancing to the third round of the national playoffs. Following that contest, the Captains will return home for two more showdowns with ODAC foes as the team will square off against Randolph-Macon on March 23 and Roanoke on March 26.

After the brief homestand, Christopher Newport will hit the road for four of its next five games during a two-week stretch. Kicking things off, the team will head to Lynchburg on March 30 before traveling to Messiah on April 2. Following a home bout with St. Mary's (Md.) on April 6, the Captains will head to Chicago for a pair of match-ups with Chicago on April 8 and Illinois Wesleyan on April 10.

Messiah and Chicago both advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals in 2021, while Illinois Wesleyan reached the second round of the tournament.

Following that gauntlet, the Captains will enter the regular season's home stretch. Christopher Newport will open up the final push at Jennings Family Stadium against Mary Washington on April 16 and reigning USA South champion Meredith on April 20. Ten days later, on April 30, the squad will wrap up the regular season with a trip to Salisbury, who claimed the national championship last spring.

The Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Tournament will begin on May 4 with the title bout taking place on May 7.

Christopher Newport is coming off of a 2021 campaign in which the Captains compiled an 11-7 record while defeating four nationally-ranked opponents. The team welcomes back eight starters from last year's roster, including four All-Conference performers, two All-Region picks, and All-American Kelsey Winters.
