Izzy Diz Named to NFHCA Senior All-Star Team

BROCKPORT, N.Y. -- After punctuating her career with a decorated campaign as a standout member of the Christopher Newport field hockey squad, Izzy Diz has been named to the NFHCA Senior All-Star Team, which was announced on Monday afternoon by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association.

Diz was one of 60 student-athletes from around the nation to receive the prestigious honor. Overall, she is the 19th Captain in program history to earn Senior All-Star accolades.

A dynamic presence on the defensive side of the ball, Diz anchored Christopher Newport's back line throughout the 2021 campaign. She helped the Captains rank among the national-leaders with seven shutouts during the regular season, including a pair against nationally-ranked competition. She also led a defense that limited the opposition to a microscopic .529 shot-on-goal percentage, which marked the lowest rate in program history and was one of the finest efforts in the entire NCAA during the 2021 season.

Equally dominant as a centerpiece on the program's penalty corner defense, Diz helped the unit clear 92 percent of the opposition's corner opportunities during the fall, including a run of 30 straight stops from September 18 through October 27.

Honored for her work throughout the year, Diz was celebrated as the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week on September 6 and September 20. With her two weekly honors, she joined former legends Bailey Lien, Shelby Judkins, Brittan Muir, and Olivia Davis as the only players to receive the award twice in a single season.

For her performance, Diz was named to the first-team All-League squad and earned a spot on the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference All-Tournament team. With her All-Tournament selection, she became the first Captain to earn the postseason award twice after previously starring during the 2019 conference playoffs.

In her four years at Christopher Newport, Diz started 50 career games and finished her tenure ranked among the top-20 all-time with over 3000 minutes of action. The Alexandria, Virginia native also compiled six defensive saves during her career and landed her first collegiate strike with a second-half dagger against Sewanee on October 17.

Overall, Diz is a two-time All-League performer and a perennial member of the NFHCA National All-Academic squad for her terrific work in the classroom as well.
