No. 17 Pomona-Pitzer Colleges Down Captains Men's Tennis, 9-0

CLAREMONT, Calif. -- Facing their second top-25 opponent in their first five matches of the season, the Christopher Newport men's tennis team suffered a 9-0 setback at No. 17 Pomona-Pitzer Colleges on Monday afternoon. The Captains fall to 2-3 on the year.

Despite several close matches, the Christopher Newport men's tennis team came away empty in their second match of the team's annual journey to California for spring break. Two singles matches required a third set to be decided and two of the three doubles bouts were decided by final scores of 8-5.

Ryan Macy had the most competitive day for the Captains in both singles and doubles. In doubles, he paired with Andy Mason at No. 2 for the 8-5 loss to Hayden Snyder and Jed Kronenberg. In singles, Macy lost the first set, 7-5, but bounced back to even the match with a 6-4 win. In the decisive third set, Quinn Hirsohn barely outlasted the Captains' sophomore with a 10-8 final.

Senior Dominic Lacombe also stretched his opponent, Mukund Madabhushi, to the third set in the No. 2 match. Madabhushi ultimately won 0-6, 6-0, 6-2 after Lacombe captured the first set decisively.

Christopher Newport will return to action on Thursday, March 5 as they face Caltech at 2:00 pm.
