COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. --
The 20th-ranked Christopher Newport men's lacrosse team will take on No. 9 Ursinus in a nationally-ranked battle on Saturday at 1 p.m. when the Captains square off with the Bears at Patterson Field.

Entering the showdown, Christopher Newport currently sits at 3-0, including a pair of victories on the road. Ursinus sports an identical 3-0 record and boasts a 2-0 mark at home.

For those fans unable to attend the game, Ursinus will provide live stats and a video stream of the action at UrsinusAthletics.com. Direct links to both features can be found at the top of this release and on the schedule page.

The Captains were last in action on February 22 when the squad kicked off its home season with a thrilling 10-9 victory over Hampden-Sydney. Overcoming a pair of fourth-quarter deficits, Christopher Newport escaped with the win after Robby Adams capitalized on a feed from Coby Auslander with 17 seconds remaining in regulation to seal the victory.

In addition to the freshman combination on the game-winning goal, several first-year standouts stepped up with tremendous efforts against the Tigers. Alex Brendes became the first player in program history to open his career with three straight hat-tricks, including three tallies against HSC. For that performance, he earned a spot on the USILA National Team of the Week.

Meanwhile, Drew Miller also added an assist against Hampden-Sydney and came through with a momentum-turning takeaway after forcing a turnover in the final minute, which set up the go-ahead goal.

So far this season, Brendes ranks fourth in the Capital Athletic Conference with 11 goals, while Phoenix Hines is tied for the top spot with nine caused turnovers. Providing a steady hand between the pipes, Scott McAneney also spots an 8.42 goals-against-average to go along with a .540 save percentage. The reigning All-American also became the third goalie in program history to eclipse 400 career saves during his 11-stop showcase against Hampden-Sydney last Saturday.

On the other side of the field, Ursinus is on an equally impressive roll, including a 12-10 triumph at Eastern on Wednesday. Despite trailing at halftime, the Bears quickly snatched a lead in the third quarter before locking down the win. Colin Piper had a team-high four points in that outing, while Kyran Baker had four caused turnovers.

Overall this season, Bobby McClure leads Ursinus with 20 points, including 13 assists. Hakan Atillasoy also has a team-high 10 goals. In the crease, sophomore Chris Porzelt has compiled a .538 save percentage and a 10.06 goals-against-average, while Aiden Baltz has won 23 of his 56 faceoff attempts during the season.

Saturday's match-up will mark only the second meeting between the two programs. Last year, Ursinus edged the Captains, 12-10, during a neutral-site tilt in Baltimore. Atillasoy had four points, including three goals, for the Bears, while Dylan Rice contributed a hat-trick for Christopher Newport.

Following this weekend, the Captains will return to action on March 4 when the squad kicks off a two-game homestand with a 4 p.m. tilt against Eastern.
