No. 40 Captains Men's Tennis Falls to Washington & Lee, 7-2

Box Score NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Veterans Scotty Hunter and Andy Mason picked up singles victories for the 40th-ranked Christopher Newport men's tennis team, but Washington & Lee earned the win over the Captains, 7-2. The Generals are 2-2 to start the year as Christopher Newport falls to 1-2.

Washington & Lee took a 3-0 lead after doubles. The closest match came at No. 3 doubles where James Baron and Dominic Lacombe suffered an 8-6 setback to Mitchell Thomas and James Torbert.

In singles play, the Captains earned wins from senior Andy Mason at No. 4 over John Rudden (6-2, 6-3) and by Scotty Hunter at No. 2, who defeated Thomas (6-3, 6-1).

After a close doubles loss, Dominic Lacombe also played in a hard-fought singles bout at No. 1 against Harry Shepherd before falling by a final score of 2-6, 7-6 (3), 6-0).

Christopher Newport will now travel to California for it's annual Spring Break trip with matches at Chapman, Pomona-Pitzer, Caltech, and Redlands from March 1-6.
