NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Following a trip to Texas last weekend, the Christopher Newport men's soccer team returns home to face the University of Lynchburg (3-2-0) on Wednesday night in the first of two matchups with Old Dominion Athletic Conference foes this week. The Captains (3-1-1) look to return to the win column at 7:00 pm on Captains Field against the Hornets.

After opening the season with a 3-0-0 start, the Captains suffered an 0-1-1 trip to Texas and will look to right the ship this week. Christopher Newport will be taking on the University of Lynchburg for the 23rd time in one of the most even matchups for the Captains all-time. A 1-0 overtime win for the Hornets last season edged Lynchburg ahead in the all-time series that now stands at 8-9-5 for Christopher Newport.
This season, defender
Derek Cook has led the way for the Captains with 8 points on three goals and two assists. He has converted a perfect 3-for-3 penalty kick opportunities while also manning the back line for Christopher Newport. The defense has allowed just six goals in five games this season for a 1.12 goals-against average. Offensively, sophomores

Lincoln Kickbush each have four points on a couple of goals while five more players have logged one score this year.
In goal, senior
Justin Piercy has started all five games and played all but 21 minutes of action between the pipes for the Captains. He has made 19 saves on 25 shots on-goal with one combined shutout.
Lynchburg is coming off a 2-1 win over nationally-ranked Oglethorpe on September 13 following a 2-0 loss to 16th-ranked Mary Washington. In the first three games of the season, Lynchburg was 2-1-0 with wins over Maryville and Regent and a loss to Roanoke.
Rookie Luke Mega leads the offense with 7 points while fellow freshmen Kenny Nobles and Seth Dale have six and five points, respectively. Junior Abibi Osman has started all five games and leads the team in attempts while scoring five points on two goals and an assist. Junior goalkeeper Kyle Gallagher has started all five games and owns a 1.75 goals-against average with 10 saves.
Following the Wednesday night tilt against Lynchburg, Christopher Newport will take on Washington & Lee University on Saturday, September 21 at 6:00 pm.
