No. 4 Christopher Newport Women's Soccer Hosts Methodist in Non-Conference Action Saturday at 2pm

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The fourth-ranked Christopher Newport women's soccer team returns to Captains Field on Saturday afternoon as they play host to Methodist University (3-1-0) at 2:00 p.m.

The Captains are off to a 4-0-1 start overall this season with four shutout victories and one draw. The 1-1 stalemate came in Christopher Newport's last contest on Sunday against Dickinson College.

Saturday's contest against Methodist will be the 28th meeting all-time between the two programs. Courtesy of a 10-game unbeaten streak dating back to 2007, the Captains now own a 17-6-4 advantage in the all-time series, including a perfect 4-0-0 mark under head coach Dan Weiler. Weiler eclipsed 100 career victories at Christopher Newport last week and is closing in on 250 for his career at Division III with an overall combined record of 245-77-34.

This season, Christopher Newport has been led by a stingy defense that has allowed just one goal in nearly 500 minutes of action to start the season. Junior goalkeeper Haley Eiser was named the CAC Defensive Player of the Week earlier this week and has played all but 16 minutes between the pipes this season. She owns a 0.19 goals-against average and a .947 save percentage with 18 saves and just one goal allowed.

Offensively, junior Riley Cook leads the team with 5 points on two goals and one asisst so far this season. A strong contingent of newcomers has helped anchor the attack including sophomore transfer Emily Talotta, who earned CAC Player of the Week accolades for her performance last week. Talotta has one goal, a double-overtime winner at Virginia Wesleyan, and one assist, on a crucial game-tying goal against Dickinson, as she has come up in the clutch twice already this season.

Methodist is off to it's finest start since 2010 when the Monarchs opened the season with a 4-0-0 start. This year, MU is 3-1-0 and riding a three-game winning streak coming into Saturday's contest. The Monarchs have defeated Lehman College (5-1), St. Andrews University (4-0), and Guilford College (1-0) for their three victories. Three Methodist players have scored a pair of goals so far this season in Miranda Gay, Laura Harris, and Kiley Way, while Bella Nunu also has 4 points on one goal and two assists.

For fans unable to attend Captains Field Saturday afternoon at 2:00 pm, a live video webcast will be streamed at CNUsports.com. Links to video and live stats can be found on the women's soccer schedule at CNUsports.com.

Following Saturday's home game, Christopher Newport will fly to Texas for a pair of games next weekend at nationally-ranked Trinity University. The Captains will take on Mary Hardin-Baylor on Friday, September 20 at 6:00 pm followed by a matchup with the host Tigers on Sunday, September 22 at Noon.
