NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Christopher Newport University Director of Athletics Kyle McMullin has announced the hiring of Rob Smith as the department's new Manager of Video Production. Smith began his duties last Thursday, September 5th.

Smith, a native of Loudoun County, Va., originally joined the Christopher Newport athletic department in 2015 as a student production intern for the video team. He worked closely with numerous athletic programs as a student until graduating in 2018 with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies with a minor in Business Administration.

Smith will be leading a staff of Christopher Newport student workers to film, produce, and edit content for CNUSports.com/Watch as well as CNUSports.com. Last year, the Christopher Newport video team streamed more than 200 live Captains events.

While an undergraduate at Christopher Newport, Smith served as a Student Ambassador and a Resident Assistant on campus in addition to working with CNU TV and the athletic department. He also gained professional experience as a production intern for the Washington Redskins football organization in the 2017 season.

Since graduating, Smith has worked for the last 14 months with Dominion Energy in Norfolk as a Customer Account and Social Media Specialist before returning to Newport News to lead the video team at his alma mater.
