SALISBURY, Md. --
The Christopher Newport women's lacrosse team will continue postseason action on Tuesday at 4 p.m. when the Captains travel to No. 6 Salisbury for the semifinals of the Capital Athletic Conference Tournament at Sea Gull Stadium.

Entering the battle, CNU has a 9-9 record, including a 4-4 mark on the road. Salisbury sits at 15-2 overall and 9-1 at home.

For those fans unable to attend the game, Salisbury will provide live stats and a video stream of the action at SUSeaGulls.com. Direct links to both features can be found at the top of this release and on the CNU schedule page.

Christopher Newport advanced to the semifinals of the conference tournament after toppling St. Mary's (Md.), 14-13, during first-round action on Saturday. Against the Seahawks, Sarah Culver scored six goals, while Cat Leighty contributed six points, including the 100th of her career. Julia Golden also added a career-high 11 draw controls, which equaled the fourth-highest single-game total in program history and marked the most in a postseason tilt.

Overall this season, Culver ranks second in the CAC with 56 goals and leads the way with 18 free-position strikes. Meanwhile, Golden is second in the Capital with 88 draw controls, and Kaitlyn Ready boasts a league-high 191 saves. Ready also ranks fourth overall - and first among goalies - with 49 ground balls.

Equally impressive on the defensive end, Sam Wettengel currently has 39 caused turnovers, which is one shy of matching the single-season program record set by Emily Johnson during the 2014 campaign. She also ranks second in the conference with 53 ground balls. That total stands as the highest by a Captain since Johnson had 54 in 2014. It also ranks seventh on the program's all-time list.

On the other side of the field, Salisbury earned a first-round bye after claiming the regular season conference championship. The Sea Gulls enter the playoffs on an eight-game winning streak. Overall, their .882 winning percentage this year ranks 12th in the NCAA.

On an individual level, Alexis Strobel is sixth in the country with 56 assists, while Skye Graham is 20th with an 8.07 goals-against-average. Strobel has at least one point in every game this year while notching at least two assists in each of her last six appearances. Meanwhile, Emma Skoglund has a team-high 40 goals, and Martha Hutzell has 56 draw controls.

The Captains and Sea Gulls last met on April 10 when Salisbury recorded an 18-8 victory in Newport News. CNU trailed by only one early in the second half before SU used a four-goal surge to gain a comfortable lead. Culver, Wettengel, and Alexis Kasuda all had two goals for the Captains, while Strobel had seven points for the Sea Gulls.

The winner of Tuesday's game will advance to the Capital Athletic Conference Championship on Saturday for a date with the survivor of the York (Pa.) - Mary Washington battle.
