Live Stats

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. --
The Christopher Newport women's lacrosse team will open up the postseason on Saturday at 1 p.m. when the Captains battle St. Mary's (Md.) in the first round of the Capital Athletic Conference Tournament at Seahawk Stadium.

Entering the playoffs as the No. 5 seed, CNU sits at 8-9 overall and 2-4 against league foes. St. Mary's (Md.) is the No. 4 seed and has a 9-8 record with a 3-3 mark in conference play.

For those fans unable to attend the game, live stats will be available at SMCMathletics.com. A direct link can be found at the top of this release and on the CNU schedule page.

Saturday's contest will mark the second time in 10 days that the Captains and Seahawks have battled. Christopher Newport wrapped up the regular season with an 18-12 setback at St. Mary's on April 17. During that contest, Julia Golden registered a career-high 10 draw controls while also adding five goals. She became just the second player in program history to reach both of those totals in a single contest.

So far this season, Golden has shined in all facets of the game. She ranks third in the CAC with 72 draw controls and fourth with 29 caused turnovers. The senior has also been lethally accurate on the offensive end. Her .680 shooting percentage currently stands as the highest mark in program history. She has also converted 80 percent of her free-position shots, which marks the highest rate in school history among players with at least 10 attempts.

Along with Golden, Sarah Culver is third in the CAC with 50 goals, while Cat Leighty sits fifth with 32 assists. The sophomore star also stands just two points shy of reaching 100 for her career. Among other conference leaders, Sam Wettengel is second in the Capital with 35 caused turnovers, and Kaitlyn Ready has a league-high 179 saves.

On the other side, St. Mary's (Md.) has been led this season by Kate Bartholomew, who ranks second in the conference with 52 goals. She has 11 hat-tricks this season, including three goals against the Captains last week. Caitlin Katchmar also sits third in the CAC with 70 points. Her finest effort this season also came against CNU as she deposited eight goals on 10 shots during the squad's victory.

Defensively, Emma Brown is second in the Capital with 165 saves, while Stephanie Heffron is fifth in the league with 28 caused turnovers. Heffron is also sixth in the league with 66 draw controls and eighth with 43 ground balls.

The winner of Saturday's game will advance to a semifinal showdown at top-seeded Salisbury on Tuesday.
