NEWPORT NEWS, Va. --
Lily Schreiber and
Colette Gilbert each picked up victories in their final home regular season outing on Sunday morning, helping lead the 24th-ranked Christopher Newport women's tennis team to a 9-0 win over St. Mary's College of Maryland on Senior Day. The Captains won in Capital Athletic Conference action and improved to 8-5 overall, 3-1 in league play.
With the loss, St. Mary's (Md.) fell to 0-13, 0-4.
In a match that saw CNU surrender just a single game in all nine bouts, Schreiber picked up a doubles win with
Reagan Delp, 8-0, and Gilbert earned an 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles with
Amanda Yermal. Rounding out the doubles sweep with the seniors getting their wins was
Johanna Ranta-ahoa and Olivia reed earning an 8-0 win at No. 1 against Claire Bodine and Alden Grosh.
In singles play, Ranta-aho won her 13th match of the season with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Bodine on the top line. Rookie
Maygan Brewer earned her first career dual victory when she appeared at No. 6 against Baudratte Djiogo, 8-0.
Kara Ferner picked up a 6-1, 6-0 win over Hallie Hershey at No. 2;
Olivia Reed secured a 6-0, 6-0 victory against Grosh at No. 3;
Alison Burgess downed Sophie Nuwar 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4; and
Ana Clara Borga earned an 8-0 win over Jackie Agyemang.
The Captains were 6-2 at home this season and will close the regular season with five straight road matches. CNU will travel to Southern Virginia for their next action at 2:00 pm on April 5.
