NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The nationally-ranked Christopher Newport women's tennis team got 12 different players court time in a pair of 9-0 shutout victories to open Capital Athletic Conference play on Saturday, dropping Penn State Harrisburg (4-7, 0-1) and York College of Pennsylvania (5-2, 0-1).
The Captains improved to 7-4 overall and 2-0 in league action after the two victories on Saturday. CNU ran it's match win streak to six straight, the second longest since the 2012-13 season.Â
In the morning matchup with the Penn State Harrisburg, the Captains raced out to a 3-0 lead with 8-0 wins in all three doubles matches. The three pairings for CNU were

Moving into singles play, Ranta-aho earned a win at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-1, but head coach
David Weiner went to five different players for the rest of singles action. Despite the shuffled lineup, the Captains' dominance continued, giving up just one game in the five matches combined.
Kara Ferner, at No. 2,
Reagan Delp, at No. 3,
Ana Clara Borga, at No. 4, and
Lucy Davis, at No. 6, all won, 6-0, 6-0.
Sydney Sawyer was also terrific at No. 5, winning 6-1, 6-0 over Soorya Chitibabu.Â
As the Captains shifted to the afternoon match, the lineup continued to expand. First, the top two tandems of Ranta-aho/Reed and Gilbert/Yermal were unchanged, winning 8-1, in doubles play. At No. 3, rookie
Maygan Brewer paired with Sawyer for an 8-1 win over Chloe Doyle and Jessica Sherman.Â
In singles, CNU added
Lily Schreiber to the mix, winning at No. 6 singles to conclude the 9-0 shutout. Ranta-aho made it a perfect 4-0 day with the win on the top line, She was followed in order by Ferner, Delp, Burgess, and Borga, who combined to lose to just three games.Â
The Captains will return to action next Saturday, March 30 as they host the nationally-ranked University of Mary Washington Eagles at 11:00 am.Â
