NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- In their first match since the spring break road trip to California, the 35th-ranked Christopher Newport men's tennis team shut out Centre College, 9-0, and improved to 4-5 overall on the season.

With the loss, Centre falls to 2-6 on the season. The Captains swept both singles and doubles as five players earned wins in both singles and doubles.

In pairs play, the Captains dropped just three games en route to a 3-0 lead. Ryan Macy and Andy Mason played on the top line, earning an 8-1 win over Arpit Rana and Matthew Bulow. Seniors Nicholas Ruzicka and William Trang paired for an 8-2 win over Ben Hadlock and Danny Nelson at No. 2; and James Baron played with Dominic Lacombe for an 8-0 shutout over Max Middleton and Josh Joiner at No. 3.

Carrying that momentum into singles competition, the captains won all six matches in straight sets. Lacombe continued his strong play on the top line, surrendering just one game in a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Rana. He was followed by Mason, Macy, Trang, and Ruzicka, in order, capturing their second wins of the day.

Rounding out the Captains singles performance was freshman Mason Kolls, dropping Nelson at No. 6 by a final score of 6-0, 6-1.

Christopher Newport is off for another week before they open Capital Athletic Conference play next Saturday, March 23 at home against Penn State Harrisburg (10:00 am) and York (Pa.) (1:00 pm).
