NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Christopher Newport women's lacrosse team will look to extend its four-game winning streak on Saturday at 2 p.m. when CNU hosts 22nd-ranked Scranton at Captains Field.
Christopher Newport enters the weekend at 4-3 overall, including 2-2 at home. Scranton comes in with a 4-1 mark and a 1-0 record on the road.

The Captains secured their fourth consecutive victory on Wednesday when the squad upended Randolph-Macon, 17-13, in Ashland. During the contest, six different players notched multi-goal efforts, including a seven-point eruption from
Cat Leighty. The reigning CAC Offensive Player of the Week has scored at least one goal in every game this season and boasts 18 total points in her last two outings.
Along with Leighty,
Katie Orrison hammered home a hat-trick against the Yellow Jackets, while
Sam Wettengel and
Victoria Betterly also chipped in with three points apiece. Meanwhile,
Kaitlyn Ready came through with 15 saves during the contest, which bumped her league-leading total to 77 this season. That also places her eighth in the NCAA.
In addition to Ready's efforts between the pipes, the CNU attack also ranks among the national-leaders in shooting percentage this season. The Captains have converted 53 percent of their shots into goals, which stands 23rd in the country. Orrison leads the team with a .632 mark after depositing 12 of her 19 shots this year. Leighty has also capitalized on 61 percent of her 23 attempts.
On the other side of the field, Scranton saw its four-game winning streak come to an end on Sunday when the team dropped a 12-10 decision against Ithaca. Shannon Warburton led the Royals with four points during the setback, while three other players added multi-goal efforts. Kate Calabro also contributed a team-high nine draw controls during the contest.
Overall this season, Scranton has been effective at forcing turnovers on the defensive side of the ball. The Royals are averaging 15.00 caused turnovers per contest, which stands as the 16th-highest rate in the NCAA. Becca Russo leads the way with 15 forced miscues, while Calabro and Halle Conklin have also reached double digits. In the cage, Erin Putnam has a .397 save percentage and an 8.28 goals-against-average.
On the offensive end, Jill Henson leads the Royals with 17 points and has at least two goals in every game this year. Elena Gallo also has 13 goals during the season, while Raegen Dunn leads the squad with seven assists, including three in the opener against Messiah.
Saturday's contest will mark the first ever meeting between the Captains and Royals.
Following Saturday's tilt, Christopher Newport will hit the road for a 6 p.m. match-up at Washington (Md.) in Chestertown, Maryland on Tuesday.
