CNU Senior Nicholas Baham Featured in 13th Annual POWER SHOWCASE Video After Reaching HR Derby Finals

MIAMI, Fla. -- Christopher Newport University senior first baseman Nicholas Baham had an impressive showing at the 13th Annual POWER SHOWCASE at Marlins Park in Miami, Florida, reaching the finals of the 2019 Home Run Derby in January.

The President of POWER SHOWCASE, Brian Domenico, posted a highlight video of Baham's performance and it can be seen by clicking here.

Competing against 40 other batters from around the country, the Smithfield, Va. native smashed 12 home runs in the preliminary round to advance to the finals. Players were allotted three minutes with a wooden bat before a two-minute round with a metal bat. Baham hit seven balls over the fence with the wooden bat and added five more, including a 409-foot blast with the metal bat.

In the finals, Baham blistered five more shots out of the major league ballpark and finished as the runner-up of the 2019 event.

With the Captains season underway, Baham is off to a strong start leading the Captains in the power categories, ripping three home runs so far this season. Six of his 13 hits through the first 11 games have gone for extra bases and he has driven in 12 runs while scoring 14 times. Baham and the rest of the CNU baseball team are ranked No. 4 in the nation and are 9-2 to start the season. The next game for the Captains is Wednesday, March 13 at Virginia Wesleyan.
