Box Score LANCASTER, Pa. - Christopher Newport began play on Friday in the first of four in-season tournaments on the schedule this season. The Captains, ranked ninth in the country, used a second-half surge to defeat Marywood, 87-56. Christopher Newport is now 2-1 and will advance to the Championship of the William Marshall Tipoff Tournament to take on the host school, Franklin & Marshall College Saturday night.
Junior
Jason Aigner topped the Captains in the scoring column with 15 points, and made five of 11 shots, all behind the three-point line. Aigner recorded 12 of his 15 points in the second half on four triples. Senior
Luther Gibbs again filled up the stat sheet for the Captains, scoring seven points, pulling down six rebounds, and posting four steals and three assists.
The Captains held just a nine-point lead at halftime, 35-26, before pulling away by out-scoring the Pacers in the second half, 52-30, for the 31-point triumph.

Dalon McHugh II (14) and
Nick Parks (11) also reached double figures in scoring, as the Captains shot 57 percent from the field in the second half and 46 percent for the game. Christopher Newport out-rebounded Marywood, 47-27, with senior

Adrian Beasley each registering a team-high seven boards. The Captains have now out-rebounded their opponents, 107-68, in the last two victories this week over Shenandoah and Marywood.
Christopher Newport's defense held the Pacers to just 36 percent shooting for the night. Marywood is now 0-3 to start the season, and the Pacers will play in the third-place game Saturday beginning at 5:30 p.m. The meeting Friday was the first-ever between the Pacers and Captains.
Christopher Newport will now play in the title game Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. against the Diplomats of Franklin & Marshall, who opened their season on Friday with a victory over Lancaster Bible in the other first round game of tournament.
