BUENA VISTA, Va. -- The Christopher Newport men's soccer team is back in action on Tuesday night as the Captains travel to Southern Virginia University (2-8-0, 0-1-0) for Capital Athletic Conference action. Kickoff against the Knights is scheduled for 7:00 pm in Buena Vista, Va. with live stats and a live video webcast available online.

The Captains are coming off a 3-0 victory against York (Pa.) in the conference opener on Saturday that saw the team improve their overall record to 4-1-3 while making a 1-0-0 start in conference play. Southern Virginia opened conference action with a 2-1 setback at home against Salisbury.

The all-time series favors Christopher Newport, 6-0-0, as the Captains own a 34-0 edge in goals scored in the series as well. Last year, the Captains picked up a 3-0 win over the Knights on the road, marking the sixth straight multi-goal performance against Southern Virginia.

This season, Christopher Newport is averaging 2.00 goals per game with three players leading the team with three goals apiece. Forwards Justin Wilson and Lincoln Kickbush each recorded their third goal of the year in the win against York (Pa.), while defender Derek Cook currently holds the scoring lead for the Captains with 8 points on 3 goals and 2 assists.

Senior Justin Piercy was named the CAC Defensive Player of the Week after shutting out the Spartans with eight saves. He also had an assist in that contest while going on to pick up his second clean sheet of the season. Playing in front of him, Cook has been joined by Daniel Hulett, Justin Piercy, Khari Jones, and Jacob Dudley to lead a tough defense that has allowed just seven goals in eight games.

Southern Virginia has a pair of wins this season with victories at Shenandoah, 1-0, and against Wilson, 2-0. Sophomore Zach Martin leads the attack with five points on two goals and one assist while rookie Zander Budd has added two goals in four games played. Budd scored both of his goals in the win against Wilson two games ago.

For fans who can't attend the game in person, live stats and a live video webcast will be available online with links found at CNUsports.com.
