The Christopher Newport women's lacrosse team will look to continue its postseason run on Wednesday at 4 p.m. when the Captains battle No. 3 Salisbury in the Capital Athletic Conference semifinals at Sea Gull Stadium.

Christopher Newport punched its ticket to the semifinals with a 19-16 triumph over St. Mary's (Md.) in a first round bout on Saturday at Captains Turf Field. Making history all over the field, Sarah Culver scored seven goals, which marked the fourth-highest single-game total in program history. Meanwhile, Carly Wilson dished out six assists and Mackenzie Regen forced six turnovers. Both of those efforts rank third on the program's all-time single-game lists.

For their work against the Seahawks, Culver was named the CAC Offensive Player of the Week, while Regen was named the league's top defensive player.

Overall this season, Culver leads the CAC and ranks 29th in the NCAA with 65 goals. That total also stands as the third-highest in program history and the best since 2013. Wilson's 45 assists this year also lead the league and rank 15th nationally. They also rank third all-time at CNU, just one behind Meghan Harkey's second-place total of 46.

On the other side of the field, Kaitlyn Ready has already smashed the single-season program record for saves. The sophomore has collected 213 stops, which is 42 more than any other player in CNU history. That total also leads the conference and ranks second in the NCAA.

Salisbury has been led this year by a tremendous defensive unit. The Sea Gulls rank 15th in the nation in scoring defense, allowing just 6.71 goals per game. The squad has also compiled a .537 save percentage, which stands 18th in the country. On an individual level, Gianna Falcone has a .552 save percentage, which ranks first in the CAC and 13th in the NCAA.

On the offensive side, Dana King leads SU with 54 points and 38 goals. Krissy Murphy also boasts a team-high 28 assists. Meanwhile, on the draw, Allie Hynson has collected 62 draw controls, while Martha Hutzell has 47. Both standouts have also caused 16 turnovers this season.

Salisbury and CNU last squared off on April 4 with SU capturing an 18-6 victory in Maryland. Colleen Bourgal and Tess D'Arcy both scored twice for the Captains, while Krissy Murphy netted a hat-trick for the Sea Gulls.

Overall, Salisbury holds a 17-0 lead in the all-time series.

The winner of Wednesday's contest will advance to the CAC Championship, which will be held on Saturday. Second-seeded York (Pa.) and third-seeded Mary Washington are squaring off in the other semifinal game, and the top remaining seed after Wednesday will host the title bout.
