Prior to Saturday's game, the Captains will hold their annual Senior Day ceremony. The program will honor its seven-person senior class, which enters the game with a combined 37-27 record since 2015. Over the course of their careers,
Colleen Bourgal,
Claire Chadwick,
Catie Chess,
Tess D'Arcy,
Corbyn Hale,
Caitlin King, and
Carly Wilson have starred both on and off the field. Among the group's accomplishments, they helped the Captains reach as high as 15th in the IWLCA National Poll and upend the highest-ranked opponent in program history with a 9-8 triumph over No. 10 Catholic in 2016.
So far this season, Wilson leads the Capital Athletic Conference with 32 assists, Bourgal sits sixth in the league with 29 goals, and D'Arcy is tied for the team-lead with 12 caused turnovers. The other four seniors have all earned starting assignments as well while making significant contributions all over the field throughout the year
Along with the seniors,
Sarah Culver leads the CAC with 43 goals this season, and
Kaitlyn Ready has a league-high 141 saves. That total also places her seventh on the program's all-time single-season list and stands as the fifth-highest amount in the NCAA this year.
On the other side of the field, Marymount is coming off of a hard-fought 13-12 overtime setback against St. Mary's (Md.) on Wednesday. The Saints had a two-goal lead with 10 minutes remaining in the game, but the Seahawks struck twice at the end of regulation to knot the score at 12 before Megan Cannon sank the game-winner in overtime. MU was led by Jessica Crew, who contributed four goals during the game, while Kellen Cannon also added four points.
The Saints have been led by an efficient offensive attack, which ranks 13th in the nation with a .533 shooting percentage. On an individual level, Abby Wescott leads the CAC with 51 points and ranks second with 28 assists, while Crew is second with 39 goals. Defensively, Holly Reik is second in the league with a .502 save percentage and third with 105 total stops.
Overall, CNU and Marymount have met nine times with the Captains holding a 7-2 edge in the series. Christopher Newport won last year's battle, 12-11, in Arlington. During that game, Culver came through with a hat-trick for CNU, while Crew contributed three goals for the Saints.
Following this weekend's action, Christopher Newport will hit the road for a 4 p.m. tilt at Mary Washington on April 11.
