SALISBURY, Md. -- Riding a season-best three-game winning streak, the Christopher Newport women's lacrosse team will square off with No. 2 Salisbury in a Capital Athletic Conference showdown at 5 p.m. on Wednesday at Sea Gull Stadium.
Entering the contest, CNU sits at 6-5 on the season, including 2-0 in league action. The squad also boasts a 3-1 record on the road. Meanwhile, Salisbury has compiled an 11-0 record with a 3-0 ledger in CAC play.

The Captains enter the match-up on a roll. After scoring 20 goals in back-to-back contests for the first time since 2013, CNU extended its winning streak to three straight games with a 14-13 thriller against St. Mary's (Md.) on Saturday. During the game,
Carly Wilson posted seven points, while
Sarah Culver added five goals, including the game-winner with two seconds left in regulation.
Julia Golden also contributed four caused turnovers, five ground balls, five draw controls, and two points against the Seahawks.
For their efforts, Culver and Golden were celebrated as the CAC Women's Lacrosse Athletes of the Week on Monday.
So far this season, Culver is averaging 3.91 goals per game, which stands as the second-best rate in program history. Helping facilitate the attack, Wilson has compiled a 2.73 assists-per-game average. That also ranks as the second-finest mark in CNU history. Overall, Culver currently leads the CAC with 43 goals, while Wilson has a league-high 30 assists.
Also ranking among the conference leaders,
Kaitlyn Ready leads the Capital with 132 saves and sits third with 25 ground balls. Meanwhile,
Catherine Leighty is eighth in the league with 40 draw controls, and Golden is 10th with 12 caused turnovers.
On the other side of the field, Salisbury has won each of its last three games by double-digits, including a 20-1 triumph over Southern Virginia on Saturday. Overall, 14 different Sea Gulls scored a goal against the Knights, including a hat-trick by Brianna Held. Julie Talbert and Lindsey Wagner also contributed four points apiece.
So far this season, SU ranks 13th in the country with a .568 save percentage and 16th with a 6.64 goals-against-average. The Sea Gulls have also limited their mistakes, averaging only 12.09 turnovers per game. That is the second-lowest rate in the NCAA. Meanwhile, on an individual level, Gianna Falcone is 10th in the country with a .574 save percentage, while Dana King leads SU and sits 10th in the league with 25 goals.
Overall, Salisbury and CNU have met 16 times with the Sea Gulls holding a 16-0 record in the series. Last year, SU posted a 14-12 victory in Newport News. Culver led the Captains with six goals, while King contributed five points for the Sea Gulls.
Following Wednesday's showdown, Christopher Newport will return home on Saturday for a bout against Marymount at 2 p.m. Prior to the game, the Captains will hold their annual Senior Day festivities.
