NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Christopher Newport women's lacrosse team will wrap up the regular season on Saturday at 2 p.m. when CNU hosts Wesley in a Capital Athletic Conference contest at Captains Turf Field.

Entering the weekend, CNU currently stands at 8-8 overall and 4-3 in league action. The Captains currently sit fourth in the conference standings. Meanwhile, Wesley is 6-8 overall and 1-6 in league play.

For those fans unable to attend the game, live stats and a video stream of the action will be available at CNUsports.com. Direct links to both features can be found at the top of this release and on the CNU schedule page.

In their last action, the Captains upended Southern Virginia, 20-2, on Wednesday. The two goals allowed by Christopher Newport equaled the fewest surrendered by the team this season. Leading the way on the defensive side, Kaitlyn Ready came through with her 13th double-digit save effort of the year after contributing 12 stops. Meanwhile, Tess D'Arcy forced four turnovers and collected three ground balls.

Making her team-leading 35th consecutive start on Wednesday, Mackenzie Regen also picked up three ground balls and forced a turnover while anchoring the back line.

On the offensive side, Colleen Bourgal notched her 100th career point after finishing with a team-high eight points against SVU. Olivia Aumais also chipped in with her first collegiate hat-trick, and five other players posted three points as well.

With the conference tournament beginning next week, the Captains continue to boast three league-leaders heading towards the postseason. Sarah Culver has a conference-high 56 goals, while Carly Wilson leads the way with 37 assists. Ready also has a comfortable lead in saves as the sophomore has 192 stops, which is 38 more than the next-closest competitor.

In addition to her 56 goals, Culver stands second in the league with 62 points and third with 14 free-position strikes. D'Arcy also sits fourth in the league with 18 caused turnovers. Her 56 career caused turnovers also place her seventh in program history, just one behind Morgan Layton for sixth on the all-time list.

Wesley comes into the weekend on a two-game skid, including an 18-5 setback against St. Mary's (Md.) on Wednesday. During the contest, Paige Brehm stuffed the stat sheet with four goals, five draw controls, four ground balls, and three caused turnovers. Maddison Cypher also scored a goal and forced two miscues during the game.

Overall this season, Wesley has been one of the best teams in the conference at causing turnovers. Four players rank in the top-10 in the league this year. Brehm leads the CAC with 28 caused turnovers, while Francesca Benitez ranks second with 26. Alexis Galloway (18) and Fallon Fore (17) have also tormented the opposition throughout the year.

In four previous meetings between the two programs, CNU holds a perfect 4-0 record. Last year, the Captains posted a 19-2 triumph in Dover. Bourgal notched four points during that contest, while Jordan Hayes added five draw controls.

After the regular season wraps up, the CAC Tournament will open with first-round action on April 28. The top-two seeds will earn byes, while the No. 3 and No. 4 squads will host games in the opening round.
