NEWPORT NEWS, Va. --
The 17th-ranked Christopher Newport men's lacrosse team will wrap up its regular season home slate on Saturday at 1 p.m. when CNU hosts No. 2 York (Pa.) in a Capital Athletic Conference showdown at Captains Turf Field.

Entering the contest, CNU sits at 12-2 on the season, including 5-1 in league action. Meanwhile, York (Pa.) is 12-1 overall and 4-0 in CAC play.

For those fans unable to attend Saturday's action, live stats will be available at CNUsports.com. The Captains will also provide a broadcast of the game with Andy McGregor and Jake Myers on the call. Direct links to both features can be found at the top of this release and on the CNU schedule page.

In addition to being a top-20 battle, Saturday's game will also serve as Senior Day for the Captains. One of the most accomplished groups in program history, this year's senior class has helped lead Christopher Newport to a 47-18 record since 2015. That ranks as the finest stretch all-time at CNU. Along the way, the seniors helped the Captains climb into the USILA National Poll for the first time ever in 2016 before jumping all the way to 15th in the rankings earlier this year.

Among their finer moments, this year's seniors have guided Christopher Newport to four victories over nationally-ranked opponents over the last four seasons. Additionally, they helped the program register its first postseason wins after claiming triumphs in the CAC Tournament during each of the past two years.

So far this season, several seniors have put together terrific campaigns. Matthew Crist ranks second in the CAC with 61 points, while Tony Cruz leads the league with a .655 faceoff percentage and 182 total victories. Meanwhile, Jake O'Connell leads all non-faceoff specialists with 61 ground balls this season, and both Drew Magnusson and Shane McKenna have started at least a dozen games apiece. Christopher Albright has also appeared in every contest as one of the squad's top defensive midfielders.

Guided by the seniors, Christopher Newport currently ranks sixth in the NCAA with 517 ground balls and 17th with a .440 man-up percentage. The Captains also sit 19th in assists (108) and 25th in faceoff percentage (.634).

On the other side of the field, York (Pa.) enters Saturday riding an eight-game winning streak. In their last outing, the Spartans sunk St. Mary's (Md.), 17-3, on Wednesday. YCP shut out the Seahawks over the first 47 minutes before the visitors finally found an opening in the fourth quarter. On the offensive end, Thomas Pfeiffer registered five points, while Dillon Hannah also tallied a hat-trick.

Overall this season, York ranks among the national leaders in nearly every conceivable category. The squad is fourth in the nation in clearing percentage (.904), sixth in scoring defense (5.54 goals-against-average), and 15th in scoring offense (15.54 goals per game). Additionally, the Spartans are ninth in ground balls (496) and 12th in shooting percentage (.353). On an individual level, Landry Marshall ranks third in the NCAA with a 5.01 goals-against-average, while Pfeiffer is sixth in the country with eight man-up goals.

In nine previous meetings between the two programs, York (Pa.) holds an 8-1 edge in the series. The Spartans posted a pair of victories last year after notching a 12-7 triumph in the regular season finale before collecting a 19-9 win in the CAC semifinals.

Following this weekend's action, Christopher Newport will wrap up the regular season next Saturday with a 1 p.m. battle at Wesley.
