Christopher Newport is coming off of a hard-fought 14-10 setback at No. 10 Mary Washington on Wednesday. The Captains held a one-goal edge with 12 minutes remaining against the nationally-ranked Eagles, but the hosts scored six straight tallies to pull away for the win.
Sarah Culver led CNU with five goals, while
Jordan Hayes contributed a hat-trick.
Kaitlyn Ready made 12 saves between the pipes.
Coming into the weekend, three Captains rank among the national leaders for their efforts this season. Ready is fourth in the country with 160 saves. That total also places her fifth on the program's all-time single-season list, just 11 shy of matching Hanna Slough's record-setting performance in 2014. Meanwhile, on the offensive side,
Carly Wilson is seventh in the NCAA with 35 assists, and Culver is 16th with 53 goals.
On the other side of the field, York (Pa.) enters Saturday on a four-game roll, including a 22-12 triumph at St. Mary's (Md.) on Wednesday. Against the Seahawks, Devin Hursey established a new program record with nine assists and tied the single-game mark with 11 points. Regan Cook also contributed nine points, which equaled the third-highest total in school history.
Overall this season, York (Pa.) has been electric on the draw. Nicole Clauter ranks second in the CAC with 61 draw controls, while Kayleigh Phillips sits fifth with 51. Capitalizing on the extra possessions, Meghan Fox is sixth in the conference with 31 goals, while Hursey is fourth with 19 assists. Equally adept in the crease, Charlotte Wright is third in the Capital with an 8.72 goals-against-average.
In six previous meetings between the two programs, the Spartans hold a 6-0 edge in the series. Last year, YCP posted a pair of victories. York won 12-9 in the regular season before registering a 10-8 triumph in the CAC semifinals.
Following Saturday's game, the Captains will return home for their final two regular season contests. CNU will kick off that run against Southern Virginia on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
