NEWPORT NEWS, Va. --
The Christopher Newport women's lacrosse team will host St. Mary's (Md.) in a Capital Athletic Conference showdown beginning at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Captains Turf Field.

Entering the contest, CNU currently sits at 5-5 overall and 1-0 in league action. On the other side, St. Mary's (Md.) is 4-5 with an 0-1 mark in CAC play.

For those fans unable to attend Saturday's contest, live stats and a video stream of the action will be available at CNUsports.com. Direct links to both features can be found at the top of this release and on the CNU schedule page.

The Captains enter the contest following a pair of offensive explosions over the past week. The squad upended Frostburg State, 22-8, in its CAC opener before downing Randolph-Macon, 21-16, on Wednesday. With those performances, Christopher Newport eclipsed 20 goals in back-to-back outings for the first time since ripping off four straight 20-goal efforts in the middle of the 2013 campaign.

Against the Yellow Jackets on Wednesday, Sarah Culver matched her career-high with seven strikes, which also equaled the fourth-highest single-game total in program history. Additionally, that outburst moved her to 10th on the program's career goals list with 121. She now sits just two goals shy of tying current teammate Catie Chess for ninth all-time.

Also climbing the career charts, Carly Wilson dished out four assists on Wednesday. The senior standout now has 57 for her career, which places her ninth all-time. Her 25 helpers this year also rank ninth in the country, while Kaitlyn Ready sits sixth in the NCAA with 120 saves this season. The sophomore goalkeeper has pieced together a program-best eight straight double-digit save efforts entering Saturday's action.

On the other side of the field, St. Mary's (Md.) has been ranked in the top-25 during various parts of the season but is currently on a two-game skid. The Seahawks were last in action on Wednesday when the squad opened up CAC play at No. 6 Mary Washington. SMC held a 5-3 edge early in the contest before the Eagles battled back on the way to an 18-11 triumph. During the game, Ali Collie led St. Mary's with five points, including three goals.

So far this season, Emma Brown ranks second in the league with 100 saves. That total also places her 14th in the NCAA. She stands fourth in the conference with 23 ground balls as well. Among other CAC leaders, Kate Bartholomew is seventh in the league with 35 draw controls, while Collie is eighth with 24 goals.

In 13 previous meetings between the two programs, St. Mary's (Md.) holds a 7-6 edge in the series. The squads split a pair of battles last year with SMC notching a 16-15 win in the regular season before CNU slipped past the Seahawks, 8-7, in the first round of the CAC playoffs.

Following this weekend's tilt, Christopher Newport will continue league play at No. 3 Salisbury on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
