No. 36 CNU Men's Tennis Falls at No. 16 Mary Washington in CAC Action

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- In a regular season match between the top two teams in the Capital Athletic Conference, the nationally-ranked Christopher Newport men's tennis team fell to 16th-ranked Mary Washington, 9-0. 

The bout was a rematch of the 2017 CAC Championship matchup where Christopher Newport captured the program's first conference title since joining the league in 2013. With the win, Mary Washington improves to 12-2 while CNU falls to 8-7 on the year. 

Nicholas Ruzicka had the best showing of the afternoon for the Captains, winning eight games against his opponent at No. 4 singles, Moses Hutchison. Ruzicka ended up falling to Hutchison, 6-3, 7-5. Dominic Lacombe also won eight games at No. 5 against Ryland Byrd, falling 6-4, 6-4. 

In doubles, CNU fell behind, 3-0, after dropping matches 8-4, 8-3, and 8-3 at 1, 2, and 3 respectively. Justin Cerny and David Reed paired up for the loss at No. 1, facing Michael Fleming and Byrd. 

The Captains will return to action on April 7 as they travel to No. 18 Johns Hopkins University.
