FROSTBURG, Md. --
The Christopher Newport women's lacrosse team will open up Capital Athletic Conference action on Sunday at 2 p.m. when CNU travels to Frostburg State for a league tilt at Bobcat Stadium.

Entering the contest, CNU sits at 3-5, including 2-1 away from Newport News. Meanwhile, Frostburg State is 3-4-1 with an 0-3 ledger at home.

For those fans unable to attend the game, live stats and a video stream of the action will be available at FrostburgSports.com. Direct links to both features can be found at the top of this release and on the CNU schedule page.

The Captains have had a lengthy layoff since their last action on March 15. During that game, last-minute goals by Colleen Bourgal and Julia Golden forced overtime, but Haverford escaped in the extra session with a 16-15 victory. Overall, Bourgal finished with five goals for CNU, while Catherine Leighty contributed four. Madison Callan also added three strikes and a pair of ground balls.

Overall this season, Kaitlyn Ready leads the CAC with 99 saves. She has posted at least 10 in six straight contests, which stands as the longest run in CNU history. Helping out on the defensive end, Mackenzie Regen and Tess D'Arcy are also tied for the team-lead with eight caused turnovers apiece. On the offensive side, Carly Wilson is third in the league with 16 assists, and Sarah Culver is fourth with 26 goals.

On the other side of the field, Frostburg State has won two of its last three games, including a 19-15 triumph over Hope on Monday. During that game, Jara Matlick scored six times, while Morgan Cavey came through with five goals. Between the pipes, Emalie Mayo made 13 saves to earn the victory.

So far this year, Cavey ranks third in the CAC with 28 goals and 38 points. Stephanie King also boasts a team-high 13 assists, which places her fifth in the league. Meanwhile, Cavey ranks second in the conference with 37 draw controls, while Mayo and Abigail McClure have split time in the crease and combined for a .421 save percentage and 15.00 goals-against-average.

Saturday's meeting marks the ninth all-time match-up between Frostburg State and CNU. The Captains currently hold a 5-3 edge in the series, including an 18-7 win last season.

Following this weekend's tilt, Christopher Newport will return to action on March 28 when the team hosts Randolph-Macon at 7:30 p.m.
