REDLANDS, Calif. -- Rounding out a successful swing to the Golden State, the 27th-ranked Christopher Newport women's tennis team captured it's fourth straight win with a 6-3 victory over No. 34 Redlands (4-4) on Friday afternoon. The Captains improved to 5-3 with the win, capping a 3-0 trip across the country against Caltech, Chapman and Redlands.

The final match of the trip, against Division I Villanova, was rained out on Saturday.

In the Friday afternoon tilt against the Bulldogs, CNU got two wins each from Johanna Ranta-aho and Kate Huck. The duo paired up for their fifth straight win at No. 2 doubles when they downed Jackie Lacy and Madison Ross; 8-3. It was one of two doubles victories for the Captains, who also earned a win at No. 3 doubles behind senior tandem Isabelle Wessel and Emily Morgan. Wessel and Morgan improved to 5-2 this season with an 8-3 win over Lexi Lehman and Kate Dolan.

Heading into singles play with a 2-1 advantage, the Captains held off a comeback bid by Redlands during individual play. The Bulldogs won the first two matches, at No. 2 and No. 4, to take a brief 3-2 lead in the match, but CNU responded by quickly clinching the bout with the four remaining matches.

Claire Dockrill surrendered only one game in her match at No. 5 against Dolan, dispatching the Bulldogs junior by a final score of 6-0, 6-1. Alexandra Drye won at No. 6 against Ross (6-4, 6-2) to take the lead, and the final two bouts came back to Ranta-aho and Huck. The two Captains with multiple wins on the day locked up the CNU win with wins at Nos. 1 and 3.

Ranta-aho defeated Sarah Ikioka by a final score of 6-4, 7-5 and Huck took down Jackie Lacy by a final score of 6-4, 6-4.

The Captains wrapped up a streak of eight matches away from home and will now play the next three on the courts at CNU. Next up on the schedule is Centre College on March 18 at 10:00 am.
