WINCHESTER, Va. --
The Christopher Newport women's lacrosse team will cap off its two-game road swing on Tuesday at 5 p.m. when the Captains head to Shenandoah for a non-conference battle at Sprint Field.

Entering the match-up, Christopher Newport currently sits at 1-1 on the season, including 1-0 on the road. Shenandoah is also 1-1 and a perfect 1-0 at home.

For those fans unable to attend the contest, Shenandoah will provide live stats and a video stream of the action at SUHornets.com. Direct links to both features can be found at the top of this release and on the CNU schedule page.

Facing their third straight ODAC foe to kick off the 2018 campaign, Christopher Newport is coming off of an 18-2 victory at Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday. During that contest, Sarah Culver erupted for five goals, while Madison Chestnut and Colleen Bourgal had two apiece. Catherine Leighty helped lead the defense with two caused turnovers and a pair of ground balls as well.

So far this season, Catie Chess leads the Captains with seven points, including five goals. The senior standout also has 13 draw controls and three caused turnovers. Meanwhile, Culver has a team-high six goals, Bourgal boasts six points, and Carly Wilson has a team-high five assists.

On the defensive end, Kaitlyn Ready has started both games between the pipes and sports a .519 save percentage and an 8.69 goals-against-average.

On the other side of the field, Shenandoah toppled Hood, 17-7, in its opener before suffering an 18-6 setback against Mary Washington last Wednesday. Annie McCorry leads the Hornets with six points this year, while four other players have five tallies. Defensively, Maddie Albornoz has a .441 save percentage and an 11.51 goals-against-average.

In 20 all-time meetings between the two programs, Christopher Newport holds an 18-2 advantage in the series. Last year, the Captains posted an 18-7 win in Newport News. Chess led the way with four goals, while Culver added a hat-trick. McCorry contributed two goals and three draw controls for the Hornets as well.

Following Tuesday's tilt, CNU will return to action on Saturday when the squad hosts No. 15 Catholic at 3 p.m.
