Game Notes:  CNU Women's Basketball  ||  CNU Men's Basketball

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- With just two games left on the regular season schedule, the hunt for the 2018 Capital Athletic Conference regular season title is still on and the Christopher Newport Captains will look to keep their hopes alive with a pivotal road trip to Mary Washington on Wednesday. The CAC doubleheader and regular season road finale will tip at 6:00 pm with the nationally-ranked CNU women's team looking for a season sweep against the Eagles. Immediately following, the CNU men will look to do the same against their Mary Washington counterparts, with tip set for approximately 8:00 pm.

Live stats and a live video webcast will be available with links found at CNUsports.com. The men's game will also be available live on the CNU/Pepsi Radio Network at Xtra 99.1 FM.

The race for the CAC men's title is wide open with seeding from 1-6 in the conference tournament still yet to be decided. York (Pa.) holds a one-game lead on the Captains and Salisbury, who are both one game up on Mary Washington after the Eagles suffered a setback in their last game to snap a six-game roll. CNU will take on York (Pa.) on Saturday following Wednesday's action.

The Captains are 18-5, 12-4 this season while the Eagles come into the contest 17-6, 11-5. CNU has won seven straight in the series with a 26-6 advantage in the all-time series. The game will feature two of the league's top three-point threats as Mary Washington rookie Drew Johnson leads the CAC with 74 made three's and CNU senior Aaron McFarland ranks second with 61. McFarland comes into Wednesday's contest just six triples shy of tying the Captains' program record for career three-pointers set by Jermaine Woods in 2003. .

McFarland and fellow senior Spencer Marin continue to lead the Captains this season. After back-to-back 20-point performances, McFarland now ranks fourth in the league in scoring with 17.3 points per game; Marin ranks in the top 50 nationally in field goal percentage after knocking down nearly 59% of his attempts from the field this season.

On the women's side, the Captains will look to hold position atop the conference standings in their contest against the Eagles. They come into the Wednesday tilt tied with Marymount for first, and both teams have already clinched first-round byes in next week's CAC Tournament. The Captains, at 21-2, 15-1, are riding a 10-game winning streak as they take on a much improved Mary Washington team with a 13-10 overall and 12-4 conference record. The Eagles have won four straight and six of seven games since the Captains defeated them by 55 earlier this season, 98-43.

CNU is coming off a hard-fought comeback at Penn State Harrisburg, sneaking away with a 78-75 win on Saturday for the team's 10th straight win. Seniors Makenzie Fancher and Sam Porter led the way in the win with the two highest scoring outputs of the season for CNU. Fancher scored a career-high 22 while draining seven three-pointers and Porter scored 13 fourth-quarter points en route to a season-best 21-point effort.

Fancher currently leads the league and ranks third nationally in assist-to-turnover ratio with a 3.17 mark. Porter also grabbed six steals in the win and is now just two shy of 300 for her career. The two seniors are among seven Captains averaging 6.7 points per game or better as the team continues to average a league-best 77 points per game without a single player averaging over 9.5 points per game.

Mary Washington features similar balance with only senior guard Kendall Parker averaging 10.0 points per game this season. Jordan Pamlanye is a dangerous threat inside, averaging 8.9 points and 5.7 rebounds per game.

Following Wednesday's matchup at Ron Rosner Arena in Fredericksburg, the Captains will host Senior Night at the Freeman Center on Saturday, February 17 at 6:00 pm.
