The Captains (9-1-0, 2-0-0) will host the Knights (4-7-0, 0-2-0) in Capital Athletic Conference action with live stats and live video available at CNUsports.com.
Christopher Newport is coming off an impressive 5-0 win over Virginia Wesleyan University on Monday night, highlighted by a hat trick and seven-point performance by sophomore
Riley Cook. Cook moved up to 17th nationally in points per game (2.70) and notched her fifth game-winning goal, ranking tied for eighth nationally.
With the historic effort against the Marlins, Cook took hold of the league scoring lead with 27 points on 11 goals and five assists. Senior
Gabby Gillis is right behind her with 22 points on nine goals and four assists. As a team, the Captains are averaging 3.10 goals per game to lead the league and rank 42nd nationally.
The CNU midfield has been strong controlling the middle of the pitch for the Captains this season. In addition to Gillis, Christopher Newport has seen her sister, rookie
Sabrina Gillis, control the defensive midfield while fellow freshman
Abby Harrigan has also started eight games. The outside has been controlled by
Carson Pokorny and
Maxine Borris, while the midfield rotation has showcased CNU's depth all season long.
The Captains will be facing a Southern Virginia squad with four wins in their first 11 contests. The Knights have dropped three straight after winning two of the previous three with wins over LaGrange and Regent. Senior Jamilla Anderson leads the offense with five goals for 10 points, while sophomore McCall Jensen has added eight points on three goals and two assists.
After Wednesday night's conference bout, the Captains will host York (Pa.) on Saturday, October 13 at 5:00 pm.
