FROSTBURG, Md. -- The Christopher Newport men's soccer team continues it's run of road contests on Saturday as the Captains travel to Frostburg State University for a 7:00 pm matchup with the Bobcats. CNU is looking for it's third straight win while in the midst of playing 10 of 12 games away from Captains Field.
The Capital Athletic Conference bout features the Captains, coming in with a record of 5-4-0, 1-0-0 taking on the host Bobcats, with a 3-7-1, 0-1-0 record. CNU owns a 6-0-2 advantage in the all-time series against the Bobcats, including a 2-0 victory at Captains Field last season.
This year, CNU is averaging nearly two-and-a-half goals per game, led by
Stephen Durbin and
Jordan Boone. The veteran duo have scored eight of CNU's 22 goals, and combined for 5 assists. They also have three of CNU's five game-winning goals to pace the Captains' attack. Defensively,
Zach Pedini has started all nine games and owns a 1.11 goals-against average for the Captains with a .730 save percentage.
Senior
Bobby Seifert has anchored the back line, which is holding opponents to just 8.1 shots per game and only 3.7 on frame.
Frostburg State also features a goalkeeper who has started every game so far this season, as Joel Assal has a 1.58 GAA in over 1000 minutes played. Offensively, Mo Odolla has four goals and one assist for nine points, while Randy Putnam has added a pair of goals and four assists for eight points.
The Saturday night matchup kicks off the final stretch of six straight conference games for the Captains. After playing at Frostburg State, CNU will travel to Southern Virginia University on Wednesday, October 10 for a 7:00 pm matchup.
