NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The regular season will come to a close at Captains Field on Wednesday night, as the Christopher Newport men's soccer team hosts St. Mary's College of Maryland at 7:00 pm in Capital Athletic Conference action. The Captains (6-8-0, 2-4-0) will be playing for playoff seeding for the CAC Tournament set to begin on Saturday, October 27.
The Captains can finish anywhere between 5th and 7th in the league standings, and will be heading out on the road for the first round of the CAC Tournament. St. Mary's comes into the contest with an 11-2-3 overall record, tied for first in the league with a 4-1-1 mark in conference play.

The CNU defense has been terrific this season, holding opponents to just 14 goals in 14 games played for a 1.01 goals-against average. Senior
Bobby Seifert has played 1275 of a possible 1288 minutes this season, anchoring a back line that has held opponents to just 7.3 shots per game. Joining him on defense are junior
Derek Cook and sophomores
Daniel Hulett and
Davis Pillow. The Captains also feature a veteran goalkeeper in senior
Zach Pedini, who has started all 14 games and owns a 72% save percentage in over 100 shots faced.
Offensively, senior
Stephen Durbin and junior
Jordan Boone are the only players in double figure scoring this season with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Rookie
Tanner Dail has a pair of goals to headline the underclassmen contributions, while sophomore
Justin Wilson ranks third on the team in scoring with three goals and two assists for eight points.
St. Mary's features one of the leagues most dynamic players in junior Khalid Balogun, who leads the conference in scoring with 29 points. He has scored 11 goals and added seven assists, topping the charts in the conference in both categories. Fellow junior Josh McRobie has also scored 20 points this season, with eight goals and four assists, to help anchor the dangerous Seahawks offense.
Following Wednesday's contest, the Captains will learn it's first round opponent for the 2018 CAC Championship, set to begin on Saturday, October 27.
