NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- After a full week's worth of rest following the Capital Athletic Conference opener last Saturday, the 7th-ranked Christopher Newport women's soccer team is back in action on Saturday afternoon, putting its unbeaten record to the test against Wesley College. Kickoff from Captains Field is scheduled for 2:00 pm, and is being played as part of a doubleheader with the men's teams, kicking off at Noon.
CNU comes into Saturday's tilt with an 8-0-1 overall record and a 1-0-0 start in conference play. Wesley has started the year with a 3-4-1 overall mark and an 0-1-0 record against the league. Christopher Newport is 4-0 all-time against the Wolverines, including a 9-1 win over Wesley on the road last season.

The Captains are riding a dominant roll in conference play, unbeaten through the last 17 straight regular season games dating back to the start of the 2015 season. During that stretch, CNU is 16-0-1 and is outscoring opponents 60-8 with 11 shutouts.
This year, the Captains have found success behind a talented, young core that features eight starters in their first or second season. Rookie
Riley Cook headlines the skilled youth movement, with 17 points on eight goals and one assist. Sophomore
Carson Pokorny has backed up her excellent first season with 12 points on four goals and four assists, and newcomer
Maxine Borris ranks fourth on the team with eight points on three goals and two assists.
Defensively, three of the four starting backs are first- or second-year players as sophomores
Keiley McCarthy and
Shaye Doherty are joined by rookie
Alexi Manley. With senior
Danielle Pratt, the back line has allowed just eight goals over the first nine games. Senior goalkeeper
Carly Maglio has a 0.79 goals-against average with a pair of shutouts in just under 800 minutes of action.
Wesley comes into the game on Saturday featuring a dangerous two-headed attack in the league's third-leading scorer in sophomore Aleya Cummings and junior Janiah Moore. Cummings has scored 15 points (7g, 1a) and Moore has added 14 points (6g, 2a) to account for all 13 goals scored this season.
Following the action on Saturday, CNU will travel to Southern Virginia University on Wednesday, October 4 for a 5:00 pm kickoff against the Knights.
