FROSTBURG, Md. -- The Captains surrendered just one single game in a dominating singles performance against Frostburg State Sunday morning, as the 33rd-ranked Christopher Newport men's tennis team cruised to another shutout in CAC action, 9-0. CNU improves to 11-8 overall with a 5-1 record in conference play, while the Bobcats fall to 3-10, 0-5.
The Captains earned their fifth consecutive shutout in Capital Athletic Conference play, with all six players for CNU earning a pair of wins on Sunday.
Rookie
Andy Mason played on the top line in both singles and doubles, earning an 8-2 win with partner
William Trang in pairs play before moving on to take down Shasta Brathwaite (6-1, 6-0) in singles.
The rest of the individual matches ended in 6-0, 6-0 finals, as CNU rolled by the Bobcats.
Dominic Lacombe and Trang won at 2 and 3, followed by wins from
Nicholas Ruzicka,
Michael Dodd, and
Alex Johnson in order 4-6.
The doubles play was equally as impressive, as CNU captured 8-0 wins at No. 2 and 3. Ruzicka and Dodd paired together for the win over David Kramer and Jeffrey Frost on the second line, and Lacombe and Johnson played against Abiodun Olojo and Toheeb Aroworowon for the win at No. 3.
The nationally-ranked Christopher Newport men's tennis team has won five straight matches against Division III foes. The Captains will close out conference play on Wednesday, April 12 as they head to Salisbury University for a 3:30 pm start against the Sea Gulls.
