YORK, Pa. -- The Christopher Newport women's lacrosse team will face No. 5 York (Pa.) in the Capital Athletic Conference semifinals on Saturday at noon when the Captains battle the Spartans at Kinsley Field.
Entering the weekend, CNU is 11-7 overall and advanced to the semifinals with an 8-7 victory at St. Mary's (Md.) on Tuesday. York (Pa.) sits at 13-2 overall and earned a bye to the semifinals after winning the CAC regular season championship.

A LOOK AT THE CAPTAINS
Coming into Saturday's contest, Christopher Newport has scored a league-high 233 goals and ranks second in the CAC with a 12.94 goals-per-game average. The Captains have been especially effective from eight meters, boasting a conference-high 52 free-position goals, which also ranks as the fourth-highest total in the NCAA. The squad's .531 conversion percentage is also the 12th finest in the country.Â
On an individual level,
Meaghan Galvin leads the conference and ranks second in the NCAA with 103 draw controls. She also boasts a league-high 88 points, which places her fourth in the country. She is currently one of only two players in the nation with at least 40 goals and 40 assists, and she is the only one with 40, 40, and 100 draws.
Along with Galvin,
Sarah Culver ranks third in the conference and first on the team with 45 goals.
Catie Chess also sits in the top-10 in the league with 49 points, while
Carly Wilson has been electric lately, registering nine points in her last four appearances, including the game-winner against St. Mary's in the first round of the postseason.
LAST TIME OUT
CNU advanced to the CAC semifinals with an 8-7 victory at St. Mary's on Tuesday. After the Seahawks grabbed a three-goal lead in the second half, Christopher Newport battled back and scored four unanswered tallies in the final 11 minutes to seal the victory.
Samantha Wettengel came through with the equalizer with 52 seconds remaining before Wilson hammered home the winner with :28 left.
Overall, Galvin led CNU with four points, while Chess and Wilson also scored a pair of goals. Defensively,
Kaitlyn Ready earned the win after notching nine saves, and both Galvin and
Lindsay Weaver forced a pair of turnovers.
SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
York (Pa.) has been dominant at home this year, posting a pristine 8-0 mark at Kinsley Field. Dating back to last season, the Spartans have won 10 straight contests at home, which stands as the eighth-longest winning streak in the nation. Overall, YCP has won 10 straight contests entering the postseason, although the squad's smallest margin of victory during that run was its three-goal win against the Captains in the regular season finale.
Outstanding on the defensive side, York ranks seventh in the NCAA with a 5.53 goals-against-average. On an individual level, Charlotte Wright has a .451 save percentage and a 5.92 goals-against-average during her 15 starts between the pipes. Nicole Clauter also has 15 caused turnovers and 20 ground balls to go along with 54 draw controls. Meanwhile, on the offensive end, Meghan Fox has a team-high 32 goals and 42 points.
LAST MEETING
CNU and York last met on April 15 at Captains Turf Field. During that contest, the Captains held an 8-7 lead in the second half, but the Spartans stormed back to grab a 12-9 victory. Galvin posted three points for Christopher Newport, while Skye Slater had four goals for YCP.
