FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- As championship season begins to wind down in the Capital Athletic Conference, the top two teams in men's tennis will match up at 3:00 pm on Saturday to decide the 2017 champion on the campus of top-seeded Mary Washington. The 35th-ranked Christopher Newport Captains (13-9) will take on the multiple-time defending champs in the night cap of a doubleheader with the women's teams, who will also vie for a title earlier in the day on Saturday.

The match will be live tweeted at the official Mary Washington feed (@umwathletics), with updates to each match as they are made available.

The Captains are making the program's third straight CAC Championship appearance, looking to secure their first title. Mary Washington is defending 17 straight championships dating back to the 2000 season. 

This season, the two teams matched up almost exactly one month ago, with the Eagles capturing a narrow 5-4 win in Newport News. Facing the nationally-ranked squad at home, Christopher Newport picked up wins at the top two lines in doubles before also winning at 1 and 5 singles. Junior David Reed had the finest performance of the day for CNU, winning at No. 1 singles and doubles, but the Eagles clinched the win with four straight victories in individual play. 

It was the first time CNU and Mary Washington had played to a one-point decision since CNU beat the Eagles in the 2010 season by the same score. Mary Washington leads the all-time series, 22-10, with seven straight wins in the matchup.
