NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- For the fourth straight season, the nationally-ranked Christopher Newport men's tennis team will open up play in the Capital Athletic Conference Championship against Salisbury University. The second-seeded Captains (12-9) will host the third-seeded Sea Gulls (16-5) in the semifinal round at 3:30 pm on the Eyre Courts with live stats available at CNUsports.com.

The mid-week matchup will be the fourth straight semifinal bout against Salisbury since joining the league in 2013-14. The first went to the Sea Gulls before CNU broke through and reached the CAC Championship for the first time in 2015. Last season, the Captains again defeated the Gulls in the semifinal round to earn another trip to the championship bout against Mary Washington.

Last week, Christopher Newport traveled to Salisbury for the regular season matchup, and the Captains secured a shutout win over the Sea Gulls, 9-0. It was the first ever shutout against Salisbury in 33 career meetings, as CNU closed the all-time series record to 13-20 against their conference foe.

CNU has won three of their last four matches and enters Tuesday's tilt ranked No. 35 in the nation. The Captains are also ranked ninth in the Atlantic South, while Salisbury checks in at No. 18. The doubles tandems have been terrific this season, as juniors David Reed and Justin Cerny have a team-high 12 wins, as do rookie Andy Mason and sophomore William Trang. Mason and Trang are 12-5 in action at 1 or 2, while Cerny and Reed have combined to go 10-5 on the top line this season.

In singles, Reed is putting together a quietly dominant season. Despite only having seven dual wins this spring, three of them have come against nationally-ranked opponents. Rookie Dominic Lacombe has added a team-best 14 wins in individual action.

Coming into Tuesday's matchup, the Salisbury lineup has won six of the last seven bouts, with the only loss coming to CNU. Rookies Patrick MacLean and Ian Siew lead the team with 12 wins apiece in singles play, while Siew and Colt Williamson have paired together on the top doubles line for an 8-4 record.

Up next, the winner of Tuesday's semifinal match will advance to the CAC Championship match on Saturday, April 22. The Captains will face the winner of the No. 1 Mary Washington vs. No. 5 York (Pa.) semifinal.
