ATLANTA, Ga. - The 13th-ranked Christopher Newport softball team won two games Saturday to run its winning streak to nine straight. The Captains defeated Emory University by scores of 7-5 and 8-5 to improve to 9-1 on the season.

Tara Heatwole . Bates pitched the final three frames, allowing just one hit and one unearned run.
In the nightcap, the Captains recorded an 8-5 triumph. CNU jumped to an early lead with three first inning runs, and then added three more in the third to take a commanding 6-0 advantage.
Wild, who drove in three runs in the opener, knocked in two more in game two. She finished the day four-for-seven with five runs batted in. Sprinkle posted four hits in seven trips in the twin bill.
Starter
Maiven McKnight went the distance to improve to 3-0 on the season. McKnight allowed four earned runs and scattered eight hits for the Captains.
Keith Parr's squad will take on the 8th-ranked Eagles for two more Sunday beginning at 1:00 p.m. Emory is now 9-5.
Following the weekend's action in Atlanta, the Captains will continue to Demorest, GA., for a doubleheader at Piedmont on Tuesday.
