NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -Â Christopher Newport University Football Coach
Art Link has announced the completion of his staff for the 2017 season. Link, who was hired in January to succeed
Matt Kelchner as Head Coach of the Captains, has added two new names to the CNU coaching roster.
Landon Mariani has been chosen as Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks coach. Link has also named Brett Guminsky to the staff as Tight Ends coach.
Mariani joins the CNU program following ten seasons on the staff at Campbell University, where he served as Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks coach. His resume also includes time as an assistant at Coastal Carolina (2005-2007) and his alma mater, North Carolina (2004-2005). Mariani worked with two different head coaches during his time with the start-up Campbell program, and also was involved with recruiting efforts as well as on-field coaching and game-planning.Â
Guminsky comes to Christopher Newport following coaching stints at the University of Richmond and Lafayette College. He is a product of Warhill High School in Williamsburg and played at both Becker College (Massachusetts) and North Greenville University (South Carolina).Â
Link's offensive staff will also continue to include Paul Crowley (Offensive Line/Recruiting Coordinator), Greg Shockley (Running Backs), and Tommy Reamon (Wide Receivers). On the defensive side,
Jay Kirland will continue as Defensive Coordinator and Cornerbacks coach, along with J.T. Crews (Safeties), Chris Ellis (Defensive Line),
Mike Costa (Linebackers), and
Scott Fahey (Assistant Defensive Line). Student assistant Thomas Roberson will complete the 2017 coaching staff.
The Captains will begin the 2017 season on Saturday, September 2nd, at Southern Virginia University in Buena Vista, Va. 2017 will mark the 17th year of Christopher Newport football, and the first with Link at the helm.Â
