Live Stats // Video Stream

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. --
Following a two-game road trip, the Christopher Newport women's lacrosse team returns home on Wednesday at 4 p.m. for a non-conference battle with Virginia Wesleyan at Captains Turf Field.

During their travels, the Captains split a pair of contests and currently sit at 1-2 on the season. Meanwhile, Virginia Wesleyan is 0-1 following a season-opening setback against No. 18 St. Mary's (Md.) last week.

For those fans unable to make it to the contests, live stats and a video stream of the action will be available at CNUsports.com. Direct links to both features can be found at the top of this release and on the CNU schedule page.

A LOOK AT THE CAPTAINS

Sarah Culver enters Wednesday on one of the hottest streaks in program history. The sophomore standout scored 13 goals in her last two games, including seven against Haverford on Saturday. Her 13 goals mark the second-most by a Captain in back-to-back games in program history. Meanwhile, she also tied the program-record for goals in a half after scoring six times in the second period against Washington (Md.) on Friday.

Overall this season, Culver's 13 goals are tied for the league lead, while Meaghan Galvin ranks fourth with seven assists. Both standouts also sit in the top-10 in total points. On the other side, Mariah Ginebra is ranked sixth in the league with nine ground balls, while she and Tess D'Arcy are tied for ninth overall with five caused turnovers.

Along with the league leaders, Erin Callahan erupted for a hat-trick on Saturday at Haverford, while Emma Walsh currently boasts a .460 save percentage and a 10.20 goals-against-average.

SCOUTING THE MARLINS

Virginia Wesleyan was selected eighth in the ODAC Preseason Poll after posting a 4-13 record last year. The Marlins welcomed back reigning first-team All-Conference selection Megan Schallock, who ranked second in the league with 61 goals. A well-rounded contributor, she also led the conference with 125 draw controls and finished fourth with 32 caused turnovers last season.

Picking up right where she left off last year, Schallock posted three points, including a pair of goals, in the team's 15-5 setback at No. 18 St. Mary's (Md.) last week. Meanwhile, Becca Winslow also scored twice for VWC, while Jaquelyn Gabaldon also found the back of the net. In the crease, Ally Bodicky and Alexis Pulliam split time in goal against the Seahawks. Both players made three saves during their 30 minutes of work.

SERIES HISTORY

CNU and Virginia Wesleyan have met 16 times with the Captains holding a 9-7 edge in the all-time series. Last year, the Captains posted an 18-3 triumph in Virginia Beach. Galvin contributed six points for CNU, and Lindsay Weaver added four goals. Culver and Julia Golden notched hat-tricks as well.

UP NEXT

Following Wednesday's action, Christopher Newport will remain at home for a noon contest against Roanoke on Saturday.
