NORFOLK, Va. -- In preparation for their appearance at the national championships in a few short weeks, the Christopher Newport University Competition Cheer Squad traveled to Old Dominion University this weekend for the 2017 Jamfest Cheer and Dance. Competing directly against Division I programs like James Madison University, the Captains won the Collegiate All-Girl Division, scoring a 96.13, and secured the highest collegiate team score of the event.
"These ladies have worked extremely hard and have overcome a lot, especially this past week," said head coach
Erica Flanigan. "With a last minute injury we had to rework our routine, while filling in with one of our alternates. These ladies really came together and were incredible today! I am so very proud of them."
The Jamefest Magic JAM will announce complete results on Tuesday, but Christopher Newport outscored teams from JMU and the University of Virginia.
The Captains next stop is the College Open Nationals in Myrtle Beach, which is being held on March 16-18. CNU won the College Open National Championship in 2014 and finished second last season.
