NFHCA All-Region Teams

CHANDLER, Ariz. -- Five members of the Christopher Newport field hockey team earned NFHCA All-South Region honors, while Rachael Allshouse and Courtnie Greene collected first-team accolades from the National Field Hockey Coaches Association after leading the Captains to the program's first Capital Athletic Conference Championship and a berth in the NCAA Tournament during the 2017 campaign.
 
Along with the first-team honorees, Courtney Fiest, Stephanie McKinney, and Alexa Weaver collected second-team accolades for their work during the year. The honor is the second career All-Region award for Allshouse, while the other four Captains were celebrated for the first time.
 
The five total All-Region selections are the most in program history.
 
An electrifying contributor on the offensive side of the ball, Allshouse ranked first on the team and fourth in the CAC with 13 goals and 30 points. Consistent throughout the year, the junior registered at least two points in 11 of her 19 appearances, including five straight contests from October 7-21. She also established a new single-season program record with six game-winning goals, including second-half clinchers in one-goal victories over Kenyon on September 10 and Centre on October 13.
 
Anchoring the attack, Allshouse registered three multi-goal outings, including a five-point eruption against Frostburg State on October 15. She also added a pair of strikes in victories over two NCAA Tournament participants after lighting up Washington & Lee on September 23 and Centre on October 13. Equally effective as a facilitator, the Annandale, Virginia native added a pair of assists in a 4-2 victory over No. 16 York (Pa.) on October 21, which clinched the regular season CAC Championship.
 
Leading the way on the midfield unit, Greene was a dynamic contributor on both sides of the ball throughout her junior campaign. A workhorse, she ranked second on the team with 1,313 minutes of action and did not miss a second during 16 of the squad's 19 contests during the year. Making the most of her time on the field, she ranked third on the team with 20 points and second with eight assists.
 
Scoring some of the team's biggest goals during the year, Greene drove home the lone strike during CNU's 1-0 victory over No. 3 Salisbury on September 30 before coming back with the double-overtime clincher against the nationally-ranked Sea Gulls to lock up the league title on November 4. The Gloucester, Virginia native also contributed five points, including a career-high three assists, against Frostburg State on October 15 before registering the game-winning goal and a clutch defensive save against No. 16 York (Pa.) on October 21.
 
Helping out on the offensive end, Fiest put together one of the finest debut seasons in program history. Becoming just the second Captain to earn All-Region plaudits as a freshman, she was also celebrated as the CAC Rookie of the Year. Appearing in all 19 contests, she led the conference and established a new single-season freshman record at CNU with 11 assists. That total also marked the most by a freshman in the NCAA this season.
 
Registering at least one point in 13 of her appearances, she flashed her passing skills with three assists at Brigewater on September 16 before adding two more helpers in the CAC Championship against Salisbury on November 4. Equally adept as a goal-scorer, the Yorktown, Virginia native finished the year with six tallies, including a pair at Wesley on October 7. She also came through with three game-winning goals, including the clincher against Mary Washington in the conference semifinals on November 1.
 
Just the third goalie in program history to earn All-Region honors, McKinney was simply masterful between the pipes in 2017. The senior stepped up with a truly remarkable campaign as she ranked third in the nation with a 0.74 goals-against-average. She also stood 10th in the NCAA with a sparkling .827 save percentage, establishing herself as one of just three goalkeepers in the country to rank in the top-10 in both categories during the year.
 
Brushing aside opposing attacks, McKinney helped Christopher Newport post 10 total shutouts, including five solo endeavors. Among her finest outings, the Virginia Beach native came through with seven saves while blanking No. 3 Salisbury on September 30, which earned her the NFHCA National Defensive Player of the Week Award. Overall, she contributed at least five saves on six occasions, including eight during the CAC Championship against the Sea Gulls on November 4.
 
Equally dominant on the defensive end, Weaver suffocated the opposition from her perch on the back line. The senior anchored a unit that led the nation with a 0.67 goals-against-average, which also established a new single-season program record. Blanketing the field, she appeared in all 19 contests while helping limit the opposition to just 6.9 shots per game. For her individual efforts, she was named to the NFHCA Senior All-Star Game and secured first-team All-League nods.
 
Solid throughout the year, she saved her finest work for the biggest stage as she notched a pair of defensive saves during the squad's double-overtime victory against Salisbury to lock up the league title on November 4. Honored as the CAC Defensive Player of the Week on October 16, the Seaford, Virginia native also contributed seven points on the offensive end and converted three penalty strokes, which equaled the second-highest single-season total in program history.
 
Overall, the five All-Region selections helped guide Christopher Newport to a 17-2 record during the year, including the CAC Regular Season and Tournament Championships. The squad eventually earned the program's ninth all-time bid to the NCAA Tournament before wrapping up the season in the Sweet 16.
