Riding a nine-game winning streak, the Captains climbed up three spots in the latest NFHCA National Coaches Poll to earn the program's first top-five ranking since 2014. Statistically, the squad also ranks first in the nation in goals-against-average (0.50) and save percentage (.879), while CNU's .929 winning percentage is the fourth-highest mark in the NCAA.

Â
During their careers, the seven seniors have guided the Captains to a 52-17 record. Meanwhile, the program captured a share of the regular season conference championship in 2015 and has been a mainstay in the NFHCA National Coaches Poll. The program has been ranked in the top-20 for 24 weeks since 2014, including two trips into the top-five.
Â
Battling the Captains this week, St. Mary's (Md.) snapped a minor three-game skid with a 3-2 double-overtime victory against Wesley on Sunday. The Seahawks have been led this year by Courtney Mellon, who has a team-high seven goals and 16 points. Mollie Belson also has four assists, while Sophie Michel has six defensive saves. Between the pipes, Alyssa Thompson has compiled a 1.98 goals-against-average and a .720 save percentage.
Â
In 13 all-time meetings between the two programs, CNU holds an 11-2 edge, including a 7-0 victory in Newport News last year. However, St. Mary's (Md.) has taken the Captains to overtime during two of their previous three match-ups, including a double-overtime thriller in 2014.
Â
On Saturday, York (Pa.) will come to town for a nationally-ranked showdown. The Spartans have won six straight games and will host No. 8 Salisbury on Wednesday evening before arriving in Newport News. YCP has been led by a dynamic offensive attack, which ranks second nationally with a 4.46 goals-per-game average. They also rank in the top-10 in scoring average, scoring margin, points-per-game, and penalty corners-per-game.
Â
On an individual level, York boasts three of the league's top-five goal scorers this year. Autumn Mallory leads the conference with 15 strikes, while Greta Plappert is second with 13. Dana Meehling also sits fifth with eight, while Beth Patrick and Ali Posey are tied for second in the league with seven assists apiece. Defensively, Eve Hauptle has a 2.04 goals-against-average and a .721 save percentage.
Â
