CNU Men's Soccer Headed to Wesley College for Saturday Afternoon Tilt

DOVER, Del. -- Heading into the bulk of conference play, the Christopher Newport men's soccer team will hit the road for three straight games against league opponents, starting Saturday, October 1st at Wesley College. The Captains (8-2-0, 1-0-0) will take on the Wolverines (2-4-2, 0-1-0) at 3:00 pm on Delaware, as part of a doubleheader with the women's teams.

Live stats and a live video webcast, weather permitting, will be available for the game with links found on either school's athletics website. The CNU soccer schedule at CNUsports.com includes direct links to both stats and video.

The Captains won their CAC opener last weekend against York (Pa.), and have captured two straight wins to improve to 8-2-0 overall. The offensive firepower of the league-leading Christopher Newport attack has been on display all season long. In ten games so far this season, the Captains have been held to less than two goals in a game only once, and have scored three or more goals six times. CNU has already scored 34 goals, putting the team on a pace to shatter the regular season program record.

A balanced attack has been key, but sophomore Stephen Durbin and senior Jimmy Grace have been at the forefront of the offense. Both have scored 16 points this season, as Durbin has posted a team-leading seven goals with two assists, while Grace has delivered six goals and a team-high four helpers.

CNU will be facing a Wesley squad that has lost four of their last five games, including a 5-0 setback in the CAC opener last weekend to Frostburg State. The Wolverines have extended three teams to overtime, including in the season opener, capturing a 2-1 OT win over McDaniel. Since, though, Wesley has just one win in seven games.

The offense has managed eight goals, led by two apiece from sophomore Danny Garza and junior Matt Waldron. Garza also has an assist to lead the team in scoring with five points.

The Captains own a 3-1 all-time advantage in the series, bur Wesley won the last time the two teams faced off, 2-0.

Following the trip to Dover, the Captains will travel to Southern Virginia University on Wednesday, October 5, followed by a trip to Frostburg State on October 8.
