ARLINGTON, Va. -- The 15th-ranked Christopher Newport women's lacrosse team will travel to Marymount for a Capital Athletic Conference clash at Long Bridge Park on Saturday at 2 p.m.
After seeing their nine-game winning streak snapped on Tuesday, the Captains enter the weekend with a 10-2 record, including a 4-1 mark in conference action. CNU also sits at a pristine 5-0 on the road. Meanwhile, Marymount is 9-4 overall and 3-2 in league play.

A LOOK AT THE CAPTAINS Christopher Newport continues to rank among the national leaders in a variety of categories. At the top of the list, the Captains rank second in the NCAA with a .603 free-position percentage. Overall, the squad has converted 41 of its 68 eight-meter shots this year. Meanwhile, CNU also sits 10th in the country in save percentage (.561), 13th in scoring offense (15.00), and 14th in scoring margin (7.75).
On an individual level,
Meaghan Galvin leads the country in free-position percentage with a .929 mark. The junior has scored on 13 of her 14 eight-meter attempts and leads the CAC with 60 total points this year. Galvin also ranks ninth in the country with 28 assists, while
Emma Walsh is also ninth in the NCAA with a .571 save percentage.
Along with the national leaders,
Mariah Ginebra ranks first on the team with 16 caused turnovers, while
Kirsten Mendelsohn is second with 10. Walsh also has a team-high 28 ground balls this season, and both Ginebra and
Tess D'Arcy have collected over 20 apiece. Galvin leads the conference with 74 draw controls as well.
LAST TIME OUT On Tuesday, Christopher Newport dropped a 13-6 decision to No. 4 Salisbury. During the contest, the Captains fought to a 5-5 tie at halftime before the Sea Gulls slipped free in the second half. Despite the late run, Tuesday's game marked only the second time since 2010 that SU did not hold a halftime lead during a conference battle.
Against the Sea Gulls, Walsh collected 17 saves, marking the second-highest single-game total by a freshman in CNU history. Galvin also made history with her 74th draw control of the year, which broke her own single-season school record. Meanwhile,
Sarah Culver chipped in with a pair of goals, while
Lindsay Weaver scored once, forced a turnover, and collected a pair of draw controls.
SCOUTING THE SAINTS Marymount has won its last two outings by a combined 25 goals, including a 16-4 triumph at Wesley on Wednesday. Overall this season, the Saints have been led by Abby Wescott, who ranks second in the league with 58 points. She also leads the league and stands second in the nation with 34 assists.
On the defensive side, Liah Agouras is third in the CAC with 22 caused turnovers and fourth with 35 ground balls. Holly Reik has led the way between the pipes with a .493 save percentage and an 8.23 goals-against-average.
SERIES HISTORY CNU and Marymount have battled seven times with the Captains holding a 5-2 edge in the all-time series. Last season, CNU posted an 18-5 victory at Captains Turf Field. During that game, five players registered hat-tricks, including a six-point performance by current team manager
Erin Callahan.
