No. 29 CNU Men's Tennis Prepared for Nationally-Ranked Showdown With No. 13 Johns Hopkins

BALTIMORE, Md. -- Christopher Newport men's tennis is set for another nationally-ranked non-conference battle this weekend, as the 29th-ranked Captains (8-5) travel to 13th-ranked Johns Hopkins University (4-0) at 11:00 am on Saturday morning.

It is the 7th match against a nationally-ranked opponent this season and CNU has gone 3-3 in the previous six. The Captains have risen to 29th in the nation, joining the top 30 for the first time since the 2012 season, and are riding a four-match winning streak. The Blue Jays have started the season with four straight wins and are coming off a 6-3 victory over 31st-ranked Washington & Lee on the road.

This week, CNU junior Arttu Fiva was named the Capital Athletic Conference Player of the Week, and leads the way for all Captains with 16 singles victories. He is 10-3 in dual action, and is riding a team-high seven-match winning streak. In doubles play, Fiva has also been impressive at No. 3 doubles, posting a 6-2 combined record with two partners.

Sophomore Justin Cerny is also in double figures already with 12 singles wins this season, going 7-3 at the No. 2 position. He also has the Captains' lone win over a nationally-ranked opponent. Cerny and classmate David Reed have paired together ten times in No. 2 doubles, going 8-2 with a five-match winning streak.

Johns Hopkins also features their Conference Player of the Week, as Emerson Walsh earned the honor from the Centennial Conference. He and the rest of the Blue Jays have earned wins over NCAA Division I Delaware and Morgan State, along with an 8-1 win at Salisbury and the 6-3 win over W&L.

The match will begin at 11:00 am on Saturday in Baltimore, Md. Full scores and a recap will be available at CNUsports.com following the action.
